So.Long.Christmas!

It's an understatement to say that I'm glad to say goodbye to Christmas! I had such high hopes for Gavin's first Christmas! By nature, I'm a scrooge. But, this year was different! I have a child and I've been waiting to celebrate Christmas with a child.

I shopped and shopped. I wrapped and wrapped. I cooked and cooked.

Then, it all went belly up and now it's done.

Christmas morning we celebrate with my family. My bother, his girlfriend and their baby (remember them?) were coming over and for some reason, the girlfriend invited her sister, sister's husband and their two-year old over too! Why would you invite people that aren't even part of our family to our FAMILY Christmas breakfast!?!?!

I wanted this Christmas to be all about Gavin! I was even willing to share it with my brother's daughter. I had visions of sitting around with G in my lap opening presents. Seeing his eyes light up at all the toys and fighting to keep the paper and bows out of his mouth.

Instead, G barely sat still (which is just the reality of a 10-month old baby.) The house was full of people, most that I didn't even want to be there. Those people were loud!!! They all showed up an hour and a half late and G could barely keep it together because he was starving. They ALL smoke and the house wreaked of cigarettes! Every gift that I opened for G, the two-year old took away from him. When G would try to get it back, the big kid would kick him and then scream! It was a cluster fuck of loud!!! The whole morning!

I never saw anyone open the presents that I put so much thought into. In the blink of an eye - it was over. All the wrapping paper strewn about. Bro, bro's girlfriend, her sister and sister's husband were all gone...outside for another cigarette break. My mom and I were left to clean up the wrapping paper tornado.

My parents (because they are the nicest people in the world) gave bro's gf's sister money in a card. When sister showed gf, gf said "See, I told you!" I can't help but think gf told sister to come to our Christmas knowing full well that my parents would give them money. It really bothered me!

The worst part...Bro proposed to gf!!! They've been having relationship troubles and he thinks that she's insecure because she's afraid he's going to leave her. So...obviously {SARCASM} the solution is to propose. Too bad bro doesn't have a job! Which means my mom gave him one of my late grandma's 1ct diamonds to put into a ring!!! No job=no money so my mom went ahead and had that diamond set into a ring and also gave him a diamond wedding band to go with the engagement ring!!! Are you fucking kidding me?!?!

I was L.I.V.I.D!!! I'm pretty sure if you can't afford a ring, you shouldn't be proposing. And I'm certain that getting married isn't going to fix a crappy relationship. Aaaand it annoys the piss out of me that my mom helped all this happen.

I was so disappointment at our Christmas morning and I don't think I had ridiculous expectations.

Ironically, Christmas with the ILs was the better part of the day. He shared it with SIL's daughter. It was pretty uneventful.

Now, I'm feeling the lull and letdown of another Christmas. THIS is why I hate Christmas. It's all over too fast. For as much effort as you have to put into it, it should last longer than a few hours.

All I know is, next year is going to be far different. Gavin will understand presents more by then. We will have our own Christmas with him. It will be everything I want it to be because it'll just be us! Then, no mater how dumb Christmas is with my family or the hubs' family, ours will be perfect!!!

Regardless... Here are a few pics from our Christmas
"I'm the Best Present Ever"

Testing out the faux hawk for the day

Our attempt at a family pic

The hubs was quick enough with the camera to snap
this pic since this moment lasted all of 2.5 seconds
You can see how amused he is! LOL

of G in his Xmas jams

I'm sorry Christmas was such a bust. :(

That shirt that G is wearing claiming him as "the best present ever" is absolutely adorable! I think I'll need to buy one for next Christmas! Where'd you get it? Baby SF will be about Gavin's age (she'll be 9-10 months). What size did you get? Sorry I'm so nosy. :)

I'm sorry it sucked for you. I can't believe the whole thing about the ring! Sounds like something my mom would do except replace 'brother' with sister and replace 'ring' with car.

I actually had a similar Christmas with Ruby. It was a total disappointment. I'm hoping for a better one next year.

Have a happy new year!
