I'm nearing the point of Gavin's life when he'll start eating solids. I'd love to make some baby food myself and stockpile it before he starts eating solids. Only problem is, I don't know how to make baby food. I've looked online some but I wanted to see if there are any mommies out there with some advice.
What kinds of foods do I start with? Is it okay to use frozen veggies? Do I boil the veggies first? Do I need to add liquid to the puree??? Etc...
Any advice you can offer or websites you can refer me to would be greatly appreciated.
And yes, I am aware that I owe you a proper post. I haven't posted in way too long. I have a few saved as drafts but just haven't gotten around to finishing them. Since I'm slowly losing followers I need to post and possibly start up a seperate blog for all my mommy posts. Just something I'm pondering.

Www.wholesomebabyfood.com is where I learned everything about making baby food. It has tons of details and guides. All I use is a food processor. I steam the fruits or veggies until soft and then puree. I use ice cube trays to spoon out mixture and then let cool. I then wrap the trays in plastic wrap until frozen. Once frozen, pop out and put in labeled freezer bags. They last 3 mos and it is so cost effective. I made mangoes and sweet potatoes today and from start to finish, it took less than 20 minutes. Another tip: use warm water to thin out purees if too thick! I hope this helps. That website is my lifesaver!! Enjoy.
I made babyfood once but it took too long and didn't save me enough money to want to keep doing it. We loved Ella's Organics and the organic brand from BRU.
Thanks for stopping by my blog! Having a kiddo in your room at 5 months isn't what I was talking about. :) Much worse than that!
I've made only a few things so far, peas and carrots but I steamed them and threw them in the food processor. After that I put them in ice cube trays and into the freezer they went. It was way easier than I thought it would be.
I didn't need to add any liquid or anything. I read once that using frozen veggies is better than boiling them and then processing them. Something about the boiling causing some nutritional loss.
I was going to post the same link: http://wholesomebabyfood.momtastic.com/
but someone beat me to it! This book looks good too - i have had it on my wish list for a while. http://www.fishpond.com.au/Books/Top-100-Baby-Purees-Annabel-Karmel/9780091904999
I have to agree I was on www.wholesomebabyfood.com quite a bit when I first started making baby food. I do the same thing Lauren mentioned-freezing it in ice cube trays and then in ziploc freezer bags. I do feed Jackson some jars of baby food occasionally. I keep some in the diaper bag just in case we're out and I don't have the stuff I made on hand. Now that he's older, I just put whatever we're eating in the blender and he normally eats it. I hated the thought of him eating the jars of babyfood meats. It smelled like dog food to me. The other night I was making chicken and rice. I took some of the rice and onion that I had cooked in maybe a tablespoon of olive oil with some of the rice I had cooked and blended it for Jackson before I added the sauce (I wasn't sure if the sauce I was using had too much salt for him so I just skipped it).
We started with the cereals but Jackson was not a fan of rice cereal, he did like the oatmeal. We still sprinkle just about all of his food with oatmeal:)
We started with bananas and carrots I think. He ate that for a few days and then we introduced other fruits and veggies. Bananas are really easy, since you can carry one in your bag and mash it up where ever you are. We also introduced avocados pretty early too.
Oh, when I first started giving him food I mixed in a little breast milk if I needed extra liquid. Now I use water.
